Oslo Fjord Vessel Traffic Service (VTS)

The VTS station in Oslo is operated by the Oslo Port Authority, and the station in Horten by the Norwegian National Coastal Administration. Careful interplay between the VTS stations and vessels on the fjord ensures safe navigation and protects life, health and the environment.

The area is divided into two sectors. The boundary between the sectors follows the parallel of latitude 59 degrees 48 minutes North.

Round-the-clock operation of VTS stations
The stations organise and control traffic in such a way as to pre-empt hazardous or undesired situations.
They also ensure an effective and efficient traffic flow.
The stations provide important information to maritime traffic in the area, for example about other traffic, hazards and factors which could impede ship movements.
