New container line to Oslo

A new container line is established from Rotterdam to Gothenburg, Oslo and Kristiansand. MS Jana arrived at Sjursøya Container Terminal yesterday, Thursday February 25 and will be arriving every Thursday.

Statistics 2009: Oslo ever more popular as cruise port

Port of Oslo's efforts in marketing Oslo as a cruise port are paying of. The last years we have seen a significant increase in cruise traffic. Port of Oslo's annual statistics 2009 shows a 13 per cent increase in cruise passengers totalling to approximately 270 000, despite the economic downturn. Goods traffic and international ferries' passenger traffic, however, declined last year.

Lithuanian millennium Odyssey

The route around the world of “The Millennium Odyssey”

2009 is the millennial celebration of the first mention of Lithuania’s name. "Ambersail" visits Oslo on 9th of June - 10th of June, at Vippetangen quay. 11 crews of sailors on rotation is taking part in the voyage, facing the challenges of the sea and the elements. Around 120 Lithuanian sailors will participate in this route. In nine months, the yacht will visit 26 Lithuanian communities in 20 countries in 5 continents.

Risk of strike at Port of Oslo

Due to the ongoing tariff negotiations in the Municipality of Oslo there is a risk of strike in the Port from 3. of May 24.00 hrs. If strike the following areas will run with very low activity : cranes (goods handling), cleaning and accountants' department.

Speedy anti smugling boat

The customs and excise authorities new boat T/K Snøgg was christened by The Minister of Finance Kristin Halvorsen on the 11. of May. The boats main purpose is to prevent smuggling of drug, alcohol and other criminal and excise offences in the fjord nearby Oslo.

250 000 cruise passengers to Oslo

The first cruise ship arrives on Monday the 20. of April, and during the summer over 250.000 passengers will visit Oslo and its sights. The Port of Oslo is very pleased with 150 cruise ship visiting Oslo this season.

Strengthens environment preparedness

A container is purchased in order to prevent leakage of dangerous waste from containers being unloaded. The Port of Oslo KF shall secure a satisfactory level of environmental protection of which this container is a part.

The Icebathing Ladies

Only ice stopps these ladies from taking their icebath twice a week in different bathing facilities in the Port of Oslo. Turid (69), Anne Ragnhild (66) and Astrid (67) have replaced their sunhats and beach sandals with woolcaps and socks.

Opera, ferries and containers in Oslo Port

In it's second spring, the Oslo Opera House might see it's visitor number 1 million. The new opera house is situated in Bjørvika. One of the oldest ports in Oslo. Bjørvika is developing very fast with new housing and cultural institutions. The neighbourhood is a mix between containers,cruiseships and ferries.

As one of the first ports in Europe together with port of Rotterdam the ports sources of emissions has been calculated. The footprint will be presented at  C 40 World ports climate conference 9-11 July in Rotterdam.

Marine visitors at Vippetangen

In May several vessels struggeled to get a dock accommodation at Vippetangen, port of Oslo. Until Sunday the port will have eleven different vessels visiting.

New containerterminal at Sjursøya opened

The new containerterminal at Sjursøya opened for traffic 21 January 2008. The terminal is operated by Finnsteve/Norsteve and has a capacity of 143 000 TEU. Sjursøya containerterminal will in the future fully developed  have a capacity of 450 000 TEU.

Four cruise vessels call for Oslo in December

P&O’s Aurora visited Oslo on a winter cruise two years ago. Now another two cruise lines follow the example to go north in the winter. We do look forward to welcome the passengers to a winter experience in the capital of Norway

New Ship to shore gantry to Sjursøya

The new crane arrived on the 26. of September and will be placed on the new quey at Sjursøya terminal. Eventually it will take over the work that today is done at Filipstad.
The SSG-crane weighs 640 tonnes, lifts 40 tonnes and rises 77 meters above the ground.

The dredging at Pipervika restarted

The dredging at Pipervika restarted Tuesday 13 of March. An inspection has been carried out to limit the sea bed where there is a large number of bricks and rubble.The dredging will be terminated before Easter and the remaining areas finished next summer.

“Ren Oslofjord” is the municipal plan for remediation of contaminated sediments in the Oslo fjord. It is part of the Oslo city plan.
