The beginning of an adventure

The beginning of an adventure

Aker Brygge was the first part of the port being transformed from a traditional harbour to a lively waterfront. The old Aker shipyard, where boats the size of skyscrapers were once built, was in the 1980s redeveloped into bustling commercial and residential area for shopping, dining and entertainment.

Every year 12 million people visit the beautiful strip along the fjord known as Aker Brygge and the area is particularly busy during the summer months. The area is currently owned by Norwegian Property ASA, employs 7000 people and houses 400 families.

With Tjuvholmen and Filipstad to the west and RĂ„dhusplassen to the north, Aker Brygge is definitely at the centre of the Fjord City, despite being the first part of the area to be developed from port to city.

The area has been through many changes since the alteration from an industrial area to one used for shopping and business in 1986, and the process is not yet over. Property developers are constantly striving to make the area more attractive to both future residents and costumers but the area was considered fully finished in 2014.
